Brindishe Green and Brindishe Lee Schools have been awarded the Diamond Cultural Diversity Quality Standard award. This award recognises and celebrates the schools’ outstanding work in promoting cultural diversity and equal opportunities for achievement for all children.
The schools achieved the gold standard in May 2011 and have sustained and developed their work since then to achieve the highest level Diamond award from SSAT (The Schools Network) in January 2013.
SSAT describe the cultural diversity quality standard as an award ‘for schools who develop strong and positive relationships in their learning communities, give everybody a shared vision, promote a sense of belonging and provide equal life opportunities regardless of cultural heritage’.
Our assessor, Camilla Chandler-Mant, looked at a wide range of evidence before giving the award. She was particularly impressed with the partnerships across our three schools and how our communities work together. At Brindishe Green, she was also very impressed with the ‘Young Interpreters’, a group of children who speak two languages and are trained to support children new to English when they arrive at school. At Brindishe Lee, she commented ‘the curriculum reflects the diverse cultural make-up of the school; staff feel it is very important to recognise and celebrate the heritage of its families, this is promoted through curriculum projects that can be worked through at home and at school and demonstrates the value the school places on developing its relationship with families’.
